Privacy Policy

Overview

Steading Home (“we”, “us”) is a food-scoring app. Scan a packaged or fresh product to get an instant 0–100 quality score and discover local, healthier options. You need an account (email/password, Google, or Apple) to use the app, and the data below is linked to your account so your history follows you across devices.

Account data

When you sign up, we store your email address to create and identify your account. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the email those providers share with us — we do not access your contacts, calendars, or other data from those services.

What we collect

• Scan history. For each scan we store the product name, brand, score, score breakdown, nutrition snapshot, and any product image, linked to your account so only you see your history.
• Photos for scans. When you scan by photo or label, the image is uploaded to run that scan. It is used only to produce your result and is not used to build a profile about you.
• Optional location. A zip code or city (for local shopping results) and a preferred store, if you choose to add them in Settings.
• Grower leads. If you submit a local grower suggestion, we receive the name and contact details you provide.
• Support requests. If you contact us, we receive whatever name, email, and message you provide so we can reply.

Camera

Steading Home uses the camera to scan barcodes and photograph food labels and produce for quality scoring. The camera is only used while you are actively scanning; we do not access the camera in the background, and images are used only to produce your scan result.

What we do not collect

• We never sell your data.
• We do not track your location in the background; location is only used when you enter it for shopping results.
• Photos are uploaded only to run a scan and are not used for advertising or profiling.

How we use it

• To calculate and display your food scores and history.
• To find nearby places to buy the product and suggest better options.
• To keep your history synced across your devices via your account.
• To reply to your support requests and grower suggestions.
• To keep the app working and improving.

Third-party data

Product details come from public food databases (such as Open Food Facts and USDA). These services are outside our control and have their own policies. Sign-in with Google or Apple is handled by those providers; we only receive the email they share.

Data retention & deletion

Your scan history and settings stay linked to your account until you remove them. Open Settings → Delete my data in the app to erase your scan history and settings. Deleting your data does not delete your account; to close your account, contact us and we will remove it.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; the date above reflects the latest version.
